The sahasrara is a subtle centre, above and beyond the other six centres. All others are intimately connected with it. S
hers are intimately connected with it. Situated at the crownof the head, it corresponds to the pineal gland of the physical body. It has thousand petals, on which are repeated the fifty letters of the Sanskrit alphabet. It is the abode of Siva. The area in the crown of the head, known as the anterior fontanelle in a new-born child, is called Brahmarandhra, the "hole of Brahma".

At the time of death, when the advanced yogi separates himself from the physical body, it bursts open and the prana escapes through it.

When Kundalini Shakti is united with Siva at the sahasrara, the yogi experiences extreme bliss. He attains the superconscious state and the highest knowledge. He becomes a fully developed jnani.
